NEET (UG) Examination Overview

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate medical courses (MBBS/BDS) in government and private medical colleges across India.

Examination Structure:

  • Physics: 45 questions (35 compulsory + 10 optional, attempt any 5)
  • Chemistry: 45 questions (35 compulsory + 10 optional, attempt any 5)
  • Biology (Botany + Zoology): 90 questions (70 compulsory + 20 optional, attempt any 10)
  • Total Questions: 180 questions (200 questions provided, 180 to be attempted)
  • Duration: 3 hours 20 minutes

NEET (UG) is conducted once a year in offline mode (pen and paper-based test). It serves as the single entrance examination for admission to all medical colleges in India, including AIIMS and JIPMER.

  • Class 11: Physical World, Units & Measurements, Motion, Laws of Motion, Work Energy & Power, Rotational Motion, Gravitation, Properties of Bulk Matter, Thermodynamics, Kinetic Theory, Oscillations, Waves
  • Class 12: Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current, Electromagnetic Induction, Alternating Current, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics, Dual Nature of Radiation, Atoms & Nuclei, Electronic Devices

Chemistry Syllabus:

  • Physical Chemistry: Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding, States of Matter, Thermodynamics, Chemical Equilibrium, Redox Reactions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Surface Chemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry: Classification of Elements, Hydrogen, s-Block, p-Block, d-Block & f-Block Elements, Coordination Compounds
  • Organic Chemistry: Hydrocarbons, Haloalkanes, Alcohols, Aldehydes, Carboxylic Acids, Amines, Biomolecules, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life

Biology Syllabus:

  • Botany: Diversity in Living World, Structural Organization in Plants, Cell Structure & Function, Plant Physiology, Reproduction, Genetics & Evolution, Ecology
  • Zoology: Diversity in Living World, Structural Organization in Animals, Cell Structure & Function, Human Physiology, Reproduction, Genetics & Evolution, Ecology

Eligibility Criteria & Cut-offs

Educational Qualification:

  • Passed Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English
  • Minimum 50% marks in PCB for General category (45% for SC/ST/OBC, 40% for PwD)
  • Must have completed 17 years of age by December 31 of admission year

Age Limit:

  • Minimum Age: 17 years as on December 31 of admission year
  • Maximum Age: 25 years for General/EWS (30 years for SC/ST/OBC)

NEET (UG) 2024 Cut-offs:

  • General Category: 720-164 marks (50th percentile)
  • SC/ST/OBC: 129-107 marks (40th percentile)
  • General-PwD: 145-129 marks (45th percentile)
  • SC/ST/OBC-PwD: 129-107 marks (40th percentile)
